There is so much to love about this, in my book, perfect vintage Beni Ourain. The symmetrical brown pattern is highlighted in an orange that has almost completely faded to a sweet peachy tone. The balance and attention to detail in the design is incredible, yet at second glance we can see small “imperfections” and variants that give this rug its one of a kind beauty. The pattern and color combo is really special, but ultimately it was the incredibly soft, shiny, worn wool that stole my heart.
The Beni Ourain tribal group is made up of 17 smaller tribes that inhabit the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their carpets were made to use as floor coverings and heavy blankets to protect them from harsh mountain winters..
Vintage Berber rugs were not made for production, but as functional pieces to be used for many years and passed down through generations. The amazing thing about this is that it means that all the beautiful colors and patterns used have a true meaning behind them that are personal expressions of the woman who made it. These pieces can show signs of wear which I believe adds to their beauty and value, while telling a story about where they were before June + Blue. All rugs are cleaned, and any repairs needed are done in Morocco before shipment. I only select rugs in excellent vintage condition with minimal repairs.
