This vintage Beni Mguild is one handsome dude. On a faded tan background, you see little flecks and swirls of peach and pink throughout. There are faded bands of pink and grayish brown that add a special interest to this mostly neutral piece. That, combined with the green accents found in the berber symbols really give Oliver his own flare and personality. At approximately 70 years old, this rug is in fantastic condition vintage condition! The pile is low to medium.
The Beni Mguild tribe originates from the Middle Atlas mountains and traditionally made their carpets to protect them from harsh mountain winters. They were used to cover cold floors, and even as blankets when the temperatures were in their lowest.
Berber rugs were not made for production, but as functional pieces to be used for many years and passed down through generations. The amazing thing about this is that it means that all the beautiful colors and patterns used have a true meaning behind them that are personal expressions of the woman who made it. These pieces can show signs of wear which I believe adds to their beauty and value, while telling a story about where they were before June + Blue. All rugs are cleaned, and any repairs needed are done in Morocco before shipment. I only select rugs in excellent vintage condition with minimal repairs.
